We had a very successful coffee morning on 27th February in aid of fairtrade fortnight. We had a large selection of fairtrade items for sale and also a tombola. The proceeds are going to a co-operative in Sri Lanka.

Gilly and Laura are off to Dieppe this Wednesday (21 March) to meet some of the Dieppe Chamber of Commerce and the local hoteliers and restaurant owners - hopefully to form friendships with the intention of later on allowing staff to spend breaks in Dieppe with friendly hoteliers and then inviting some of their staff back to visit us.

We are both hoping for a good crossing - we'll keep you informed.

We managed to return from Dieppe safely and really must say that the crossing over and back (a different boat each way) was marvellous. At no time did we feel any turbulance (and, believe me, Laura can feel it before it's there!). We had a meal on the way over and on the return trip and the standard was very good.

We met some really good contacts in Dieppe and would particularly mention Christine who manages the Hotel L'Europe where we all stayed. She has some really good ideas about working together and we hope to keep the contact going as I am sure that we can all learn from each other.

Next year I hope that we can start arranging exchange stays for our staff and her staff so they can have a short busman's holiday and hopefully all go back with ideas that can be implemented.

The group from Dieppe are coming over here to have a look at Sussex on the 25 April so we are all looking forward to that.

Well, today Gilly 'planted a tree in Africa'. She didn't actually go to Kenya to plant the tree - she managed to do it over the internet, but she did it hoping that in some small way she has helped their local economy.

The project is organised by Woodlands 2000 Trust, which is not connected to the government in any way whatsoever. The ideo of planting the trees is to provide alternative timber supples for the local people so that the indigenous foret is left untouched - I hope it works.

We had a celebrity staying with us last week and didn't realise it until they were leaving, so we are all very excited.

It was Frances Terry, the author, whose latest novel 'The Last Eagle' is quickly selling out on Amazon. It really is a fantastic story and I would thoroughly recommend it to anyone out there.

Let us know what you think when you have read it.

Last week we had a couple staying with us. The gentleman is in a Slade tribute band called Slyde. The four piece band formed in 2001 and are based in Buckinghamshire. They are now regarded as one of the U.K's top 70's tribute bands and are rapidly becoming stars in their own right as they continue to go from strength to strength. Look out for them.
